If you think about it, Christmas is about missions. I know, I know… we all see the world through the glasses WE wear; merchants see a world of potential customers, sailors see a world of oceans, and missionaries see a world of missions. But really, it’s not just the way I see it because I’m a missionary… it IS the way it is;
CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT A MISSION.
The mission of God was and always has been to redeem fallen man; from the beginning of time. In Genesis 3:15 God told the devil,
“I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; he shall crush thy head, and thou shalt crush his heel." Darby
Actually, the intent to redeem fallen man existed in the omniscient mind of God for all eternity. Passages such as I Peter 1:20 and Revelation 13:8 indicate this truth.
The seed of woman came into this world over 2000 years ago; that seed was Christ. In Galatians 4:4-5, Paul said,
“When the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.”
God sent His son (the missionary), into this world (the mission field), to bring us salvation (the mission). The innocent babe that was laid in that feeding trough so long ago, in reality, was our missionary arriving on our mission field. He would eventually set his feet on the dusty roads of Palestine and those roads would lead Him to a cross where He would complete His mission.
Praise God for sending His only begotten Son into this dark, sin-filled world to rescue us and bring the gift of salvation to all who are willing to receive it!
Merry Christmas from CrossWay Missions.
